It's gotten harder to figure out where you find the link to create an app password for a Google Account, so here it is: https://myaccount.google.com/apppasswords
Clearly they are discouraging the use of these but AFAIK it's the only way to configure smtp.gmail.com when you want to "Send emails from a different address or alias"
